DAY 2 at Salford-TARUC workshop!!

Today is quite a day I had during the workshop where I learnt a lot of things during each session. We started off with a brief knowing on the things we are scheduled to do the next couple of days to how you blog. We had been divided into 8 groups with different people to accomplish a task together.

Notes taking during the brief is essential to help everything get organised easier.

We start our session with Mark where he taught us some information on typography. I had learn some interesting things through this session which could be said as:
TYPOGRAPHY IS
  • an identity before reading the content
  • a branding
  • an image itself
  • communication
  • Expressive
Typography could be used with images to create interesting things or as an image with language.
Here are some examples during the session:

This is where typography can be a fun subject to learn where words brings out the content they want to express.

Judging by the typeface used it could be saying something in a serious tone perhaps.

Here the typeface used could be in a manner that saying something out loud and angry which is rude.
Typeface could be EXPRESSIVE.

Somehow, typeface could be a challenge in infusing with images to make it perfect and unique in a way just as the picture above.

Images with the right typeface infused could transmit as a living thing and brought the picture alive with certain motion rather than infusing human in it.

Typeface used with positive and negative spaces creates a contrast in them along with the use of images.

After the teaching, we are required to end the session with brief exercise where we express our journey this morning with typography solely as below:

I drew something related to my morning breakfast and express them with words and typography.

This was when my group members drew their journey on the paper to compile everything together.

And this was our end product! We had included the sound of alarm clock, toilet flushing, bus honking, driving car slowly, WhatsApp notification tone, stomach rumbling and more.

After that, we had another session with Johnny! He taught us to write a storyboard using solely on pictures. Examples are given such as how do we make a scene interesting from high angle shot to establishing shot to extreme close up shot to emphasize the story.

Our group had been separated to two parts where me and my teammates drew a storyboard based on the sketches we made during Mark's session. The story was based on a lost international student finding his way to the University of Salford in Manchester.

And our story ended up on the presentation board with Johnny trying to tell our story based on the image drawn.

After Lunch we had a session with Robin where he teaches us script writing, equipment and storyboard on a short film. We had different idea coming out from the previous work done during past session and we had agree on the heading of "Gagging for adventure".

We takes note on the where the story goes while the other members do the drawing on storyboard without further ado.

Time flies and we are heading to Jenna's session where we learned that which media, film type and style are preferable to accomplish our short film. We enhance the idea we used during Robin's session longer and made a choice in the style and media we are using to accomplish the task.

We decided to make a short film using a mixture of material and actor to make our film interesting along with still photography film type.

We hoped to get a different view on the film type used to shout out to the audience that still photography film is neither close to slide show nor stop motion.

Our team took out time to finish the storyboard and to get everything ready for tomorrow!

Perspective of the day

I had learn so much today on different aspect from typography to the flow of story. Making friends and working things out together is an amazing experience. From my past experience having to work in a group does not required anything being too personal and just let them work professionally. I appreciate all the hard work and guidance shown by the tutors and teammates today to make everything possible and I really hope time do stay.

Thank you for reading!
